Offline Joined: Dec 2013 Posts: 193 | I'm very sorry for a stupid question, but I'm been busting my brains for the past hour or two trying to play a VN I torrented. I have no experience what-so-ever with torrents, so using all these torrent sites, downloading torrents, etc is a first-time thing for me. I am so confused how to get the torrent to play, and yes, I have a software that can play torrents. I will try to include all the details I know, so please bear with me. 1. Game I torrented is from fuwanovel, Utawarerumono, and says that I don't need to change my computer settings to Japanese to play it 2. I download the torrent, and open containing folder. All I see is that the 'type' is a 'file folder'. I looked at many torrent guides and usually see people dealing with rar, dat, or whatever file it is, not file folders. I don't know anything about 'unpacking' or 'compressing' or 'unzipping' a torrent or whatever the heck you do with a torrent after downloading it. So what I do after downloading it? 3. I try to play the torrent using torrent playing software like Daemon Lite, but I can't use the torrent file with it. I assume this ties back to number 2. 4. So to do anything with the torrent, I have to use 7zip, Winrar, or something like that to do something? I hear about this too, but I don't know. 5. I see guides for videos and music, but not any for visual novels. I don't see a play option or anything of the sort with the torrent I downloaded. 6. ALso, I saw that I cannot 'extract' file folders, but I can for other types of files. My torrented Utawarerumono is a file folder as a whole, and the only option with 7zip is the compress it. FOr now, this is the info I can come up with concerning my issue. I apologize again if I am sounding very stupid at this point, I really want it to be clear on how to play visual novels. If you have to unzip it first use winrar or 7zip on the compressed folder by right clicking the file and chose extract option. Kickstarter for Rokujouma is fully funded. Good work everyone. Lets wait for the result of our hard work together. |

I just edited my post, and added 6., which was how I don't see an extract option at all since my folder's type is a 'file folder'. Do I compress the entire file folder, then extract it? Edit- The install file is a LOG file if that helps. I could extract that, but I figure I have to extract the entire downloaded torrent file someway. Modified by kamisaka, Aug 3, 2014 12:08 AM |

If nothing is compressed, you don't need those. 2) You use daemon tools to mount disc images (ISO etc.), you don't need it here. 3) Log file is. well, just a log. Leave it alone. 4) It will be a good idea to move the whole folder out of the torrent's folder - if the torrent is active, it can cause some problems when you try to play the game. 5) Don't you think it would be a better idea to ask that question on Fuwanovel, instead of a site like MAL, that doesn't exactly approve of piracy? :P This looks like a Fuwa-pre-installed version, so you don't need to do anything with it. Treat it like a typical computer game - just run the exe. |

Treat it like a typical computer game - just run the exe. In response to your numbers: 1. Okay, got it. 2. Okay. I saw something about ISO too, and saw it wasn't the case here too. 3. Alright. 4. What do you mean by 'whole' folder? How do you differentiate 'whole' and 'torrent' folders. When I downloaded this torrent, I got this 'whole' or entire folder from picture 1. I don't know which files to move out of the main folder. Also, about it being active, I stopped the 'seeding' so to speak, but I don't know anything about how the torrent can still be running or active in another way. It's status is 'finished'. 5. Well, kinda lazy and partly how I'm more used to these forums than others. I don't usually go around several forums. I tend to stick to this one and a few others, but I should probably pose this question too on their boards. I don't see any exe file either. I remember playing other downloaded games (not torrents) that I can run the exe, but not the case here. |

This and do yourself a favor and show the file name extensions: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/30434-file-name-extensions-hide-show-windows-8-a.html http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hide-file-name-extensions#show-hide-file-name-extensions=windows-7 If you have Windows 8, you can also open/play ISO-files via Windows Explorer, btw. |

I already mentioned that I don't see any exe file of any sort within the entire folder. I tried to open all the files, but none of them akes the game play. ANd by moving the game folder, it doesn't change the content of the files so I still can't play it. Edit: Okay, I finally found it guys. It was an application file and I can get the game to work now. Again, I apologize for the trouble, but thanks to everyone who responded. Thanks so much for your time. Modified by kamisaka, Aug 3, 2014 2:13 PM |

I did them in a hurry and I only wanted to show a specific file, but I did finally find what I needed. I'm glad for your concern and thanks. |

This might help you with other things, too. And if the file type column is displayed in the explorer, then you'll see 'application' in the description, however, always showing the extensions is the most accurate and easiest way to find out which type a file has. Let's just say 'bill.pdf.exe' or 'hot_girl.jpg.exe' :D |
