General notes on firmware upgrading:
  • Firmware updates do not need to be applied in order. You can skip right to the latest working firmware update.
  • Normally each firmware update will also include a new version of programming software.
  • All radios shipped will have the latest updates installed that were available on the date of shipping.
General notes on installing programming software:

Some antivirus software will give a false-positive warning when downloading or installing programming software.
The following procedure is a workaround for Kaspersky Antivirus and other brands of antivirus should be similar.

  1. Turn the antivirus software off while downloading or installing the programming software
  2. Install the programming software
  3. Open the 'settings' or 'tools' window for the antivirus software, but do not re-activate its protection yet
  4. You should find a way to add an 'exception' so that a particular program will not be scanned by the antivirus software
  5. Use Google to search for 'name-of-your-antivirus-software' + 'add an exception' if you need help figuring it out
  6. You will add exceptions for the .exe files in the folder where your programming software was installed
  7. If done correctly, your antivirus will ignore the programming software when you run it
  8. Remember to turn your antivirus software back on after adding the exceptions

Your choice:
If you have not already done so, download and install this driver BEFORE connecting your radio to your computer. Select x86 for 32-bit systems or select x64 for 64-bit systems. CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD

For Windows 10, some people report that with the programming cable attached to the radio (only), turning on the radio and then connecting the programming cable to your computer, will usually load a working USB driver.

Digital Contact List from RadioID.net
The RadioID.net website has stopped providing the Digital Contact List in the CSV file format. The file format is now JSON.
To quickly convert a .json file to a .csv file you can use Digital ID List Converter.
1) Extract Digital ID List Converter.zip to a folder 2) Run the JsonToCsv.exe
3) Click on Convert, it will allow you open a .json file 4) Click on Save, it will save to a .csv file

WARNING SOME DEALERS LIE ABOUT FIRMWARE
It has come to my attention that some dealers are not being truthful when it comes to firmware update information. Let me set the record straight. Firmware is written by the factory and it is tested by variousvolunteerbeta testers. Bugs in the firmware are reported to the factory for their technician to correct. When the beta testers and the factory are convinced the firmware is working properly, the factory will provide an 'official release' of the firmware and distribute it to all of their dealers. If a dealer tells you that you must download and use firmware ONLY from their site, they are telling you a lie. Officially released firmware from the factory is compatible with radios sold by ANY dealer. Most dealers will install the latest firmware update before shipping radios to customers. If they include a custom welcome screen, such as their company logo, their firmware is still the same, only the welcome screen is changed. If they tell you that using officially released firmware from another dealer will 'brick your radio', it is a lie. There is no US distributor for Anytone radios. All the larger dealers, like myself, order directly from the factory and all these dealers are given the same firmware updates when they are released by the factory.

and run the .exe file, no installation required.

IT IS A FALSE POSITIVE. THIS IS AN OFFICIAL ANYTONE FACTORY PROGRAM.

To check the current version of your firmware, press MENU, scroll with the channel knob to SETTINGS,
press MENU, scroll to DEVICE INFO, press MENU, scroll to FIRMWARE VER to see the number of your firmware.
Press EXIT three times to return to the main screen.
If your version number is less than the latest version shown below, you should upgrade to the latest version.

It seems that some people have a problem with the button pressing sequence when trying to put the D578UV into firmware update mode. The following procedure works for me 100% of the time.
1- Have the radio powered on
2- Place a finger on both the MENU and EXIT buttons, but do not press
3- Press and hold the POWER button
4- The INSTANT that the display goes dark, press and hold the MENU and EXIT buttons
5- Release the POWER button. The red light above the power button should blink slowly
6- Release the MENU and EXIT buttons. The red light should continue to blink and the
radio is ready to accept the firmware update.

But analog APRS in North America goes out over 144.39 MHz and digital is (or so I thought) a function of whatever repeater and network (e.g. Brandmeister) and goes to a talk group. From a features viewpoint, the AT-D878UV has some extra features over and above the D868, such as APRS for FM, roaming (automatic switching to a repeater with the strongest signal, intended for large linked networks) and at extra cost can have either Bluetooth or extra audio recording capacity added as an add-in module.
