F1 2016 on Mobile Frequently Asked Questions (and Answers!)
Got a question about F1 2016 on mobile? We’ve got you covered! Check out the below for all the frequently asked questions for F1™ 2016 on mobile.
Android
Q: What are the minimum specifications for F1 2016 on Android?
A: To play F1 2016 on Android, you need a device that meets the following specifications:
- Android 5.0
- Quad-Core 1.9GHz CPU
- Adreno 330 GPU or equivalent
- OpenGL 3.1
- 2GB Ram
- Screen: 1920 x 1080 resolution minimum supported
Q: Why are the minimum specifications for F1 2016 on Android so high?
A: F1 2016 is a high-performance game that pushes the limits of what is possible on mobile devices. Even though the game has been thoroughly optimised, in order to achieve the fast paced gameplay and high quality visuals that synonymous with the F1 brand, the game needs the processing and graphical power that’s simply not available on low end devices.
Q: How much storage space do I need for F1 2016 on Android?
A: As of the most recent update, you need approximately 2.5gb of free space to install F1 2016 on Android.
Q: Why isn’t F1 2016 on Android installing on my device?
A: The most common problem is that you don’t have sufficient disk space available on your device. Check that you have enough disk space available in Android settings and then download/install the game from the Google Play store again.
Q: Why isn’t F1 2016 on Android compatible for my device?
A: The most common problem is that your Android version is too low. Make sure that your device meets the other minimum specifications, and then check to see if an update is available from your manufacturer.
If one is available, this could potentially update your Android OS to the correct version and give you any GPU driver updates for the OpenGL requirement if they are available.
After you have installed any update, then you can try to download/install the game from the Google Play Store again.
Q: My device meets the minimum specs for F1 2016 on Android, and the Google Play Store is still telling me it isn’t compatible, why?
A: Even if you meet the minimum specs for the game on Android on paper, there is potential that your device may have been prevented from accessing the game because of device-specific performance issues that are known to give a sub-par experience.
Otherwise, another thing to keep in mind is that the Google Play Store allowed you to purchase the game because you have a registered device that meets the minimum OS and OpenGL version we require.
This means that if you own (or have owned) multiple Android devices, then the game may work on one of your devices and not the other. Double check that the specific device you are trying to download the game on meets all of the minimum requirements, as it might be that the game was intended for use on one of your more powerful devices if you own one.
Q: What can I do to ensure that F1 2016 runs the best it can on my device?
A: There are a number of things you can do to make sure you have the best F1 2016 experience possible:
- Close any other apps that are running in the background, from the multitask view.
- Try not to charge the device while playing the game, as this will cause the device to heat up faster and affect performance.
- Turn off or scale additional un-needed settings, such as Bluetooth, or dimming your screen brightness.
- Try rebooting the device before launching the game.
- Do not use any kind of screen mirroring or streaming devices, such as Chromecast, as this may negatively affect performance.
Q: Would clearing my cache help? How do I do that?
A: Clearing the cache of the F1 2016 app is not recommended, as the game needs to access certain files that are stored in there to work correctly.
Although this should not improve performance, clearing the cache of other apps might provide you with more space to allow you to install the game if you are short on it. To do this go to ‘Settings’ > ‘Apps’ > then ‘Storage’ of each individual app.
Q: Would clearing my RAM help? How do I do that?
A: Making more of the device’s RAM available to the game will improve the stability of the game. To do this either:
- Close any other apps that are running in the background, from the multitask view.
- This might cause other apps to stop working, but you can also enter Android Settings and ‘Force Stop’ any unnecessary apps that might be running in the background. The location of this menu differs from Device to Device, but look out for any ‘Memory’ related options.
Q: Will F1 2016 ever be compatible for my device?
A: If you have not been prevented from accessing the game because of performance issues specific to the device you are trying to play on, there is a small possibility that your device could be made compatible in the future if a manufacturer update includes drivers for OpenGL 3.1.
Q: Are you planning on updating F1 2016 on Android?
A: We are aiming to update the Android version of F1 2016 with further performance optimisations and gameplay fixes in the future. This should make the game run smoother for existing supported devices, but will not lower the minimum specifications, or make currently unsupported devices supported.

Q: The game closes every time I try and select a circuit. How can I solve this problem?
A: Please see the “What can I do to ensure that F1 2016 runs the best it can on my device?” topic first and foremost.
If this doesn’t help, this issue can be reduced on certain devices by making sure the game is installed on the internal storage, and not any external SD card. If this step still doesn’t help, try re-downloading the game from the store in addition to the above.

Gameplay
Q: I don’t feel like I have any control over the car! It seems to do all the steering and braking for me. How can I stop this?
A: This is caused by the steering and braking assist settings which are in place to make the game easier to play for newcomers to racing games. If you want a more in-depth and challenging experience, you can easily disable these from the ‘Assists’ tab of the ‘Controls’ screen. To access this, select the ‘Controls’ button in the bottom left of the screen from the pause menu or before any event, and then tap on the ‘Assists’ tab in the top right of the screen. Here you can tap on the buttons underneath ‘Steering assist’ and ‘Braking assist’ to cycle through and set them at a level more suited to you.

Q: I’m finding Tilting the device to steer is too tiring. Is there anything I can do to improve this?
A: If you want to continue using Tilt as your steering method, you can increase the steering sensitivity so you don’t have to move the device as much. You can easily do this from the ‘Assists’ tab of the ‘Controls’ screen. To access this, select the ‘Controls’ button in the bottom left of the screen before any event, and then tap on the ‘Assists’ tab in the top right of the screen. Here you can drag the ‘Steering sensitivity’ slider to the right in order to increase the sensitivity and reduce the amount you have to rotate the device in order to steer.
Otherwise, you can switch to a touch-based steering method to eliminate the need to tilt altogether. To do this, select the ‘Controls’ button in the bottom left of the screen from the pause menu or before any event, and then select either one of the two control options on the right-hand side.
Q: How can I stop the car from automatically accelerating?
A: The car will automatically accelerate for you if you have either of the ‘Beginner’ control schemes selected.
If you want a more in-depth and challenging experience where you have manual control over the acceleration, you can select either of the ‘Pro’ control schemes from the ‘Controls’ menu. To do this, select the ‘Controls’ button in the bottom left of the screen from the pause menu or before any event, and then select either one of the two control options on the bottom row.
Q: What’s the best braking method?
A: In terms of braking, the best thing to do is to make sure you are timing it correctly in line with that the racing line is telling you. Like the console version, this turns red when you should be slowing down – so when you spot it, as the game utilises systems like ABS automatically to help prevent you from locking up the wheels, just hold the brake until the line turns green again and you are ready to start applying the throttle!
Q: How can I get the best race start? https://vaccummesdy.tistory.com/14.
A: The game features traction control for such situations in order to minimise wheelspin when you accelerate off the line, so don’t worry about having to feather the throttle here. If you are playing on either of the Pro control schemes, make sure that you have your finger on the accelerator when the lights go out – and you’ll be off to a good start! Otherwise if you are playing on the Beginner control schemes which feature automatic acceleration, then the game will take care of it for you – focus on setting yourself up to carve a good line through the pack into the first corner.
